Wildfire events at the Triassic–Jurassic boundary of the Tabas Basin, Central Iran

چکیده

Abstract This paper presents organic geochemical evidence pointing to the occurrence of wildfire events at Triassic–Jurassic boundary in Central Iran. The studied outcrop section (the Kamarmacheh Kuh section) is comprised Upper Triassic Nayband Formation which passes conformably into Lower Jurassic Ab-e-Haji with no sharp boundary. Organic petrographical studies reveal a higher concentration semi-fusinite macerals and microscopic charcoal between formations. observation can be an for widespread area. Following these fires, vast areas land were exposed erosion large volumes clastic sediments provided due increased run-off. agrees well previous sedimentological stratigraphical suggesting major change depositional conditions from marine non-marine Tabas Basin. These findings have important implications about paleo-depositional settings formations nature associated matter.
